I had the privilege of contracting with an organization that places assistance dogs with individuals with disabilities. They requested a photo shoot with one of their Arizona placements, Bennett and his awesome Golden Retriever, Aggie, for the company’s quarterly magazine. Bennett and Aggie are featured in an article about his experience with the program and how Aggie has helped him get through certain challenges related to his disabilities During his photo shoot, Bennett told me a little about his story and how he came across Aggie. After a car accident in his teens, Bennett developed epilepsy among other challenges. Since then, it has been difficult to do certain things because of the worry of a seizure. That is where awesome Aggie comes in. She is trained to alert for help if Bennett has a seizure, and also presses an alarm button which calls for assistance if they are at home. They were a pretty awesome team, and it was so neat to capture their special relationship with photos.
I love taking pictures of pets – they are just as much part of the family. A current dog and horse owner myself, I don’t think there has been a point in my life where I haven’t had pets, and I always encourage families to bring along their Rovers for family pictures. Pets just add that special something. And with Bennett and Aggie, I just couldn’t pass up a chance to photograph not just a member of the family, but a dog that literally helps save lives!
